It’s cold outside and the last thing you feel like doing is putting on your exercise kit and keeping your exercise routine going!
Even if you don’t feel like it don’t give up, maybe this is the time to try something different that compliments your regular training?
What’s your normal training Routine?
Running
If conditions are right and you have the correct gear you could still run outside! Snow needs to fresh and compact, not icy you don’t want to slip! Trail shoes would be great for this type of run. If this isn’t possible then maybe a treadmill run? You’d still get the miles in your legs and you can vary it from your normal training run outside. So go on hit the gym.
Cycling
With the roads covered in snow this isn’t a great option! Its too dangerous and you defiantly don’t want to fall off. So either hit the gym on one of their indoor cycles or get the bike on the turbo and do your training indoors.
Walking
This is a great way to get some exercise and it doesn’t have to be hills or mountains. Due to the instability of the snow walking is a lot more challenging and you use a lot more of your muscles to keep you upright. Great for your balance too.
Cross training
Maybe this is the time to do some cross training for your sport, or just try something new. Running, cycling, walking and many more sports will benefit from cross training.
Pilates is one of those exercise’s. If you don’t already do it is a good time to start even from the comfort of your own home.

Benefits of exercising in cold weather
The best thing about keeping the exercise going in cold weather is how good it makes you feel.
- you burn more calories as your body has to work harder in the cold weather.
- Your heart and lungs have to work harder so making them stronger
- You still get the feel good factor which can really boost your mood.
- You don’t feel guilty at the end of the day when you snuggle down on the sofa for the evening.
