The difference between an in-person Pilates 1-2-1
or class and a Zoom Online 1-2-1 or class
In the current climate there is NO difference.
Whether you want a technique check or to learn Pilates from scratch, learning online is a great way to do it. In this current climate it is also probably the safest way to do it as well.
Before lockdown I had lots of people telling me that learning Pilates online wasn’t safe, you wouldn’t learn it correctly as it’s better to have someone with you.
Then lockdown happened and again when I took my classes and 1-2-1 sessions online. People started to tell me that it wouldn’t last and people would get bored.
6 months later (August 2020) I am still teaching Pilates classes and Pilates 1-2-1’s online and the results are amazing.
Yes, we are all craving a bit of human contact but in this current climate that’s the worst thing we can do.
It takes a while to get use to Pilates online but having taught online for the last 3 years I was better equipped than most for this process and am able to get my clients set up so that we both get the most out of the sessions.
In fact, I LOVE teaching online. The results over the last 6 months with my clients have been amazing. I have seen clients who have been with me for over 20 years suddenly improve, challenge themselves and get stronger.
WHY is there a difference?
Between online and in person Pilates sessions, because
They are concentrating more – no distractions from others in a class.
They are turning up more, as doing from home is quicker and easier
They are starting to see and FEEL the benefits and this motivates them to do more.
Only this morning when I was teaching a 7am 10-minute Pilates class a client who has started committing to getting up early said
“it really surprises me how good I feel doing Pilates daily, don’t say anything Louise I know what you will say – I told you so!”
I didn’t say a thing but smiled.

Why is online Pilates working?
- As a Pilates teacher my teaching skills have developed as has my ability to get people to change their technique.
By ensuring that the client is set up on screen so I can see them and they me. I see much more than I ever did in class. I am at their level. (I can see myself lying on the floor next to them when we do get back to in person classes J)
- People are more comfortable in their home surroundings. Especially as a beginner there is no fear or feeling as though everyone is looking at you when you walk in or just don’t get an exercise. Check out this blog I wrote back in normal times! Does going to a Pilates class fill you with fear?
As a Pilates teacher of 20 years I have enough experience and skills to ensure that my beginner clients are learning Pilates correctly.
- 1-2-1 sessions have been the biggest surprise and I have seen some fantastic results. With my 1-2-1 sessions not only does all the above apply but the client also gets a recording of the sessions to look at after.
This has been the biggest results when they look over the recording. One client told me: “in my head I was doing as you told me, but when I saw the recording, I can see what you were getting me to do & feel it”Â
This is so common but as soon as my clients see what they need to do they do it! Then other things click into place.
It’s going to be a while before I as a Pilates teacher can get back to moving people into the right position. I am also learning if people do it for themselves then they will do it right the next time too.
Right now, I am loving teaching Pilates online and the results I am getting from old and new clients has given me a new love for Pilates and for one I will be doing more online.
As Jenny a client of mine and who attended in person classes with me in my local area and a member of my online membership said recently
So, if you stopped Pilates when lockdown began because you didn’t like the idea of online Pilates. Then maybe it’s worth giving it a go.
Your body will love you!
