Why a Consistent Workout with Pilates Transforms You — Even When Life Gets Busy (Especially for 40+ Runners)

You’re already doing the hard bit you run. You care about your health, your goals, your freedom. But maybe you’ve also started to notice a few things: recovery takes longer, those old niggles stick around, and your body doesn’t bounce back quite like it used to.

And while you know strength or mobility work would help, it’s hard to actually do it.

You just want to run.

Pilates? It sounds like something other people do. Flexible people. Non-runners. People with time. Not you.

But what if we flipped that thinking? Because a consistent workout with Pilates isn’t about replacing your runs. It’s about helping you keep running stronger, longer, and without those annoying setbacks.

Here’s how to build a simple, doable Pilates habit that supports your running and fits your real life.

How to do a Consistent workout

  1. Create a Dedicated Space

You don’t need a home gym. Just a small corner with a mat left out can make a huge difference.

It becomes a visual cue. It tells your brain: “this is where I look after myself.”

Even a rolled-out mat in the bedroom, hallway, or living room turns intention into action.

  1. Diarise Your Workouts

Treat Pilates like a training session, because it is.

Put it in your calendar. Block out the time. Set a reminder. It doesn’t have to be every day just consistently enough to feel the difference.

  1. Keep It Short (And Reap Big Rewards)

You don’t need an hour. 10–30 minutes, a couple of times a week, adds up fast.

Short, focused Pilates sessions can:

  • Activate your glutes (hello, better running form)
  • Strengthen your core (think balance, hills, and fewer stumbles)
  • Improve mobility (goodbye, tight hips and hamstrings)

Small and consistent beats big and occasional. Every time.

  1. Be Part of a Community (Even Online)

Accountability helps. Whether it’s a live Zoom class, an on-demand group, or a friend who checks in you’re more likely to show up when someone else might notice.

And there’s power in knowing you’re not the only one fitting this into a busy life.

  1. Lay Out Your Kit (Or Wear It Early!)

If you work from home or have a flexible day, change into your workout gear before you plan to do Pilates.

This removes friction. You’re already dressed for it, so you’re more likely to press play on that class or hit the mat for a quick session.
