Do you take a lunch break? Or do you sit at your desk and eat your sandwich and carry on working?
More and more these days people don’t take a lunch break! If you have read my previous blog “How long should you sit for in a day” you will know that sitting is the new smoking and sitting at your desk for long periods is bad for your health.

How long is your lunch break? 30 minutes and hour?
The Government give guidelines on their website as to rest breaks you are entitled to in your day.
We already know that regular movement in your day is important and this includes getting up from your desk too. Studies have shown staying at your desk during your lunch break can decrease productivity as well as be bad for your health!
So take advantage of your time and get away from your desk!
4 Top Tips for things to do in your lunch break
- Go to the gym! If you work in a city most have plenty of gyms to choose from so you could join do a workout. Attend a class(which are usually shorter to allow you to get there and back, showered and changed!) or go for a Swim. These are excellent ways of getting away from your desk, stop you focusing on work and keeping you fit and healthy
- If there are no gyms around, find a park or walk around the streets. In the UK we are advised to do 10,000 steps a day! How many of you can say you honestly do that? We even have an app on most phones that tell us how many we have done! Walking is a great form of exercises and can help us stay fit and healthy. Plus we don’t need to worry about a shower and changing!
- Go for a lunchtime run! Most offices have showers and changing facilities, it doesn’t cost anything as no membership fees! There are some great apps if you are new to running to help you start.
- Try an online class, whether it’s pilates/ yoga or a HITT session, all you need is an empty room and a mat. Maybe even get some friends to join you and make it a regular session. Now the weather is getting better there is no need to sit at your desk and eat your lunch, get up and exercise and see what a difference it makes to your work and your health.
