How 10 minutes a day of Pilates made a difference during
lockdown and beyond
Lockdown 1
It’s the 23rd March and suddenly the whole country is in lockdown and all your classes and have stopped or have gone online.
In order to get the most out of our exercise we needed to adapt and keep an open mind.
It was early days of lockdown and Studio 44 Pilates and the 10 minute of Pilates a day was fortunate to be featured in The Telegraph in an article of “how to make the most of your daily exercise”
Sue from Hampshire was browsing the Telegraph and came across the article and it was something she had been thinking about.
Sue had done some Pilates over 20 years ago but more recently had been doing yoga regularly.
Sue had been finding lately in her yoga classes that she was struggling with a few exercises for example moves similar to the Roll Up in Pilates.
“My Yoga teacher talked about the moves coming from the core, but I could never do it. I just couldn’t work out where to send the message to the right muscles to group to say I need some help”
Sue had been thinking about Pilates and had been meaning to ask her neighbour who attended a local class in Hampshire.
Then she saw my article in the Telegraph.
“I really like the idea of doing 10 minutes of Pilates daily, it’s a really simple formula”.
You think “that’s not a lot I reckon I can do that”
Sue signed up with the Emergency Pilates package we had on offer at the beginning of lockdown.
“I began to work through the beginner’s video, some I even did a couple of times until I was happy before I moved on. There was no rush”
In the Pilates Plus membership the Live classes are an added bonus. Sue likes not having to drive to a class and just turning up at home.
“what I love is the immediate feedback you get in the LIVE classes, even when I am doing the 10-minute videos I felt they were easier as I knew you as a teacher”
1-2-1 Pilates sessions.
The Roll up was still the one thing that was alluding Sue so she booked onto some 1-2-1 sessions.
Sue did 1-2-1 sessions as it just felt like the next step rather than independently trying to work it out for yourself.
For Sue it was investment in her time.
We spent 3, 30-minute sessions on just the Roll up, breaking it down, adding other exercises in to help, plus with the vide of the session to look back on Sue was able to practice and make such great improvements.
Who would have thought at the beginning of the year we would be doing more Pilates at home, but Sue has found it to be a real focal point each week and it’s in her diary, nothing gets in the way.
The impact of 10 minute Pilates a day
Sue and her family have really noticed a difference too.
“I’ve lost a good ½ stone and the only difference is the Pilates. I walk taller and look slimmer as I’ve also lost inches where I wanted too!”
Sue has also started wearing her clothes differently, tucking in tops instead of leaving them loose to cover up all those bits we hate as we age!
When we head back to normal Sue says “I’ve found a good teacher, I’m not jumping ship to a local class, I’m staying online. It’s fits well into my life”
There is something for everyone, if you are self-motived then all you need is the 10-minute Pilates video, but if you want some accountability then you have the LIVE zoom classes each week too. Find out more about the memberships here
Pilates can make a difference, done regularly and we all have 10 minutes in our day.
