How to learn Pilates at Home
Learning something new is always hard and learning it at home alone is daunting. I know that people have less time these days with both work and family demands. So sometimes doing things at home is the only answer.
7 Day Beginners Pilates Challenge
I am about to run the 7 Day Beginners Pilates Challenge for the third time starting on the 29th April, you can sign up HERE.
The Challenge is over 7 days and each day in your in box you will receive a short video. Starting with the basic Pilates techniques and towards the end of the week learning a few basic Pilates moves.
The great thing is you don’t have to do this alone, there is a dedicated Facebook group for the 7 days and every day I do a Live so you can ask questions regarding the day’s video. Plus, the Facebook community really keeps you going.
The Pilates for Busy People Weekly Show
Want to find about more about the 7 day beginners Pilates challenge? Then listen to this week show where I talk to Carla who took part in the Challenge at the beginning of January and moved on to the Beginners course after the challenge.
Carla has had back problems for a long time, but 7 years ago things got worse when she fell and broke her back.
Last year the pain got worse and she started seeing a Physio again who advised Pilates and guess what we were promoting the Challenge at the time so Carla decided to give it a go.
Carla said “in the last couple of months when I went to physio she, kept saying “These are pilates moves that we’re giving you know, as you have no core stability” The pain was in my lower back and it would seize up constantly. So, when we realize that I have no core stability and so that’s where we started to work on it. “
Carla’s physio sessions were 6 weeks apart and she was given a sheet of paper with her exercises on but she said “ I would come home with a sheet of paper for exercises that I had to do. And, you know, I’ve been I’ve been doing that for about seven or eight months. I mean, in that in that six weeks, you can actually get the exercises quite wrong if you’ve just got sheet of paper in front of you”.
I asked Carla why she signed up for the 7 Day Challenge?
“You kind of popped up one day, and I just thought, Oh, that’s what I need. And that was the reason why, you know, I signed up for it, because it just happened at the right time.”
How did you find the Video’s?
“Excellent. I mean, I had a lot of fun doing them. And it was good, because the fact you were doing the Facebook live, and I made a concentrated effort to try and be there for every night that you were doing it for. You could ask any questions that you had. Yes, there’s no one watching you specifically, you could ask the questions. And that helped me. Any you were very quick with your response, which was great. So, the support is definitely there. As well with a Facebook group, you got chatting to others as well. And, you know, it’s a good community. It was it was a good feeling, knowing that you’re doing that. And you’re doing these exercises for the first time. But you’re not alone.”
“Because it is quite daunting. And there’s so much I mean, I tried to break it down in the videos, but there is so much to think about just to stand up straight. The other thing that was really nice in the Facebook group, when you’ve done your video we all went in and said I’ve done it today, and I had these problems. So that was really great. And as you say, it gives you that accountability. But again, if you’re not on Facebook, it doesn’t matter. You can still do it through just in the emails.”
The 7 Day beginners’ course isn’t designed to give you enough to carry on Pilates without further tuition but it breaks down the basics to give you a great understanding of what Pilates is all about and how it can make a difference to your mind and body.
