Joseph Pilates recommended Pilates should be practised at least 10 minutes a day. This was to ensure that you learn the Pilates exercises and you spend time time learning technique so that you can perform the exercises as best as you can for your body and mind.

BUT can 10 minutes Pilates a day (or 3- 4 times a week) really be effective?
Today our lifestyles are so busy with work, kids, grandchildren that it hard sometimes to fit in time for you.
If you leave your exercise to the end of the day it’s so easy to make excuses not to. Although last week (Sept 18) I did a week long of 10 minute Pilates Lives on my Facebook page. They are still there if you want to try out the 10 minutes Pilates on the PAGE
I did two evening live 10 minute Pilates evening sessions, and two things I found interesting.
- I had the most most people join on a evening session. (note to self for next live sessions)
- For me the next morning was amazing, I wasn’t stiff and almost jumped out of bed the next morning and was ready and raring to go rather than the normal slow start!
So my new regime needs to be 10 minutes Pilates before bed!!
If you make the effort the results can be amazing.
It’s hard to get into a habit but if you plan it into your day and try for a week to see how it feels, you might be surprised.
I actually prefer to exercise in the morning and again just getting up 10 minutes earlier last week to do the early 10 minute Pilates Facebook lives was great.
I just love the feeling after I have done my 10 minute sessions it sets me up for the day.
Is Pilates for 10 minutes enough?
- Pilates is all about mind and body. Even by doing just 10 minutes you have to concentrate (one the main Pilates principles) on your breath and movement.
- There has been a lot of research lately on short workouts, Micheal Mosley showed in his BBC documentaries how effective short workouts can be. If you look online you can see that workouts are getting even shorter.
- It’s a great way to bring movement into your day. Especially if you sit for long periods
- TIME the biggest excuse I hear for not doing exercise. Well 10 minutes isn’t hard to find? Less time on social media maybe??
- Exercise gives you more energy, time for you and an overall feeling of wellness which can carry on into your day.
- Varying the exercises you do each day focuses on different parts of your body so can make a difference.
